Available Saccades Films

Saccades combines photography and storytelling. This is an artwork that hands viewers control over the content. The project delivers one roll of photographic film each week, as well as a soundscape and a graphic diary. Viewers who buy into the project get the option to obtain a film, undeveloped, numbered and signed, which they can choose to reveal or not. Viewers who obtain a film can print and submit one of the images, or not, for the Saccades end-of-project photobook and exhibition, to be held early in 2022. Saccades is a project that invites you to participate in a number of ways. The films are undeveloped, each containing 36 exposures of London landscapes, people, events. One film a week will be produced, and made available for auction. If you buy one, it then becomes your property. You can leave it unexposed, with its artist-signed label intact, as an ‘investment’. You can develop the pictures, print them (or have them printed) scan them, publish them (with a credit to Ben Vickers as the photographer), sell them on, and so on. Over the course of a year, 52 films will be made available, each with an unexposed set of images on.

There is only one obligation that goes with printing them: should you choose to print them, in whatever format - inkjet, laser printer, monochrome, colour, poster, in a book . . . you agree to send one print to the artist. These single prints will be gathered together, over the course of a year, displayed in a gallery or other location, and all the people who have sent in prints will be invited to attend the ‘end of year show’.
